NCL vs. Carnival Cruise line?

Many people feel these are in the same class, others disagree.

They are both great for kids and singles but I really think it comes down to ships. That being said I will offer the opinion that NCL is a step above all but the newest Carnival ships.

Carnival does have that party image too so if you are looking to have some fun, it is a good option.

Cruise Babysitting:

Babysitting:

When traveling with children under 3, most parents are looking for nursery services that will accommodate diaper changes, late nights, and childcare on port days.  For many, Carnival Cruise Lines and Disney fit that bill.  While Carnival offers these services, Disney has been acknowledged by many reviewers to offer the best comprehensive babysitting services.  For parents who prefer in-cabin babysitting, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruises are the only cruises that offer this accommodation at $19.00 per hour charge (at press time). Norwegian Cruise Lines do offer babysitting services for a fee, however, parents whose children are not toilet trained will be given a beeper to alert them when a diaper change is necessary.

Cruise Entertainment:

Entertainment:
This is where cruise lines are going all out and leaving no expense spared. They understand that nothing is more public relations taboo than a bored child and a frustrated parent on an expensive cruise.  Therefore, cruise lines spend hundreds of millions of dollars on supervised children programs to reel you in. Of course, Disney invented the word “entertainment” and by all accounts their programs receive two thumbs up from happy parents and children alike.  Former Disney passengers rate the live evening shows, live character experiences, first run movies, outdoor pool adventure and deck parties as activities that cannot be beat.  While there are no casinos on the ship, couples can enjoy nightclubs and adult only lounges for a quiet evening out. Pagers are issued to parents at all times so that they can be contacted immediately should there be a problem.  It has been often reported that this is NOT the cruise line to choose if you want to bond with your children, as they may not want to leave the numerous activities.

Cruise Accommodations:

Accommodations:
Not every family has the average 2.0 children.  Therefore, several cruise lines, such as Royal Caribbean and Disney have been adding family cabins that sleep five or six people at a time.  Many cabins in Disney feature additional storage as well as much appreciated dual-use bathrooms. Another common practice is connecting cabins for larger living space.  Carnival Cruise has staterooms on most of their ships, which are more spacious than many other lines.  Make sure to ask when booking your cruise if cribs and/or day beds are available and if so, if there is an additional charge.

Paying Disney for the cruise.

With the final payment due to Disney, I received a tear-apart envelope that I figured was junk mail. Inside were the details on what was due. There was no number to call and paying was rather difficult.

I would rate the paying Disney part of the paying is very friendly and it is almost like they don’t want you to pay to keep the deposit.

We will start booking things on Disney and will have more to report before the actual sailing.

I was wondering which cruise ships are best for older teenagers?

I would like to take my 18-year-old daughter and her friendon a cruise ship that offers dancing and other activities like moviesand video arcades?

The bigger, newer ships will have more teens, moreentertainment facilities and more planned activities for children of allages as long as you travel during the summer, spring break or duringChristmas/New Year’s holidays. Organized programming for teens typicallygoes through age 17, but it’s been my experience that older teens needstructure less than young children, and they’ll find a way to meet eachother and have fun, even without special programs.
I’d recommend you choose your cruise based on the quality of the ship, the itinerary and the price, and don’t worry too much about programs andfacilities specifically for teenagers.

Is there abetter way to celebrate the Holidays than a Disney Christmas Cruise in 2011.? The Disney Wonder and Disney Magic will be sailing from Cape Canaveral for a very special Christmas Disney fun. What makes a Christmas cruise with Disney so special?

The Disney cruise ships start decorating for Christmas right before Thanksgiving. Disney never does anything that is not over the top and you will see the Holiday spirit everywhere. As soon as you enter the  terminal you will see the Christmas decorations. When you get on the ship you can be welcomed on to the ship and step into the beautiful Holiday decorations in the atrium. I hear there 25 Christmas trees on each ship, with the largest at almost 3 decks in height being in the atrium. On the first night of your cruise make sure you watch the tree lighting ceremony. Watch out for the snow – of course Disney really can make it snow when it is 80 degrees!

More on the Epic from NCL

Sorry it has taken me a few days to get back to this blog, due to the total lack of making sure people sanitize their hands on this cruise I spent the last 2 days sick in bed in my room and 3 days since at home with the flu.

My summary for this ship is as follows:

For families and kids under 4 I would rate this as a 2 out of 5 stars for the overall cruise. The Dora the Explorer made for 1 1/2 of the 2 stars. They did offer 3 events for the toddlers and they did enjoy that aspect of the cruise.

The infants pool is NOT SAFE. There are WAY too many hazards for my 2 year old and I am shocked an amazed there was not foam covering sharp steel in this area.

While we were told we could use the big slide for the four year old, they would not let us once we got on board the ship.

In terms of value I give this a 1 out 5 stars. Not so much because we paid twice as much for this ship with features we could not use over the Pearl which had more to do and cost less to do it but because they just kept coming at you for more money. Pay for coffee, pay for Orange Juice, pay for Blue Man Group, Pay for the Character breakfast, all the add on added another $250 per person in total. If you want to due the Epic for all it’s best figure $1000 per family over the stated price they list.

There are other NCL ships which are older and smaller like the Sky that have as much for you and the little ones to due and for a fraction of the price. While it is great to say I took the newest ship, save your money because other than some bragging right you are not getting anything of real value.

I was so disappointed to have wasted money for a cruise I expect to write a amazing review on but ended up just tell people it is not worth the money.

This Thanksgiving Cruise was a total bust, the ship over-hyped, overpriced and the food at the buffet was really that bad, the same pizza burgers and pasta bar. The menu did not change and nothing but cheap fattening filler foods. This is what I would expect to see on a 3 day $99 cruise, not a $1499 a person voyage on a brand new ship, Thanksgiving week.

I am not over doing it, the EPIC was really just that bad!!!!!

If you have any questions on cruising with infants or toddlers post a comment and it will be responded too.
